It’s the last weekend of July which means I’ve got donkeys on the brain in a really big way.
Here’s my favorite girl and I at our first race together last year. We had some trouble getting out of town (so many people to go see! so many scary train tracks and cracks in the road to balk at!) but once we hit the trail she ran really well. My body, on the other hand, fell apart on me that day.
Here’s hoping for a better outcome this weekend!

My super secret training plan for the summer primarily consists of chasing a small child around in large public places in the heat.

Reminding myself of better runs from the not too far off past. Like this one, which the furry girl and I did up stupidly steep Mt Royal on the 4th of July.

Some days you can run forever. Some days are a slog. Most days fall somewhere in between.

And then there’s days like today where you fight for every step and nothing will turn it around and you run/walk/hobble through the first seven miles of your scheduled 10 miler and then throw in the towel, buy yourself an iced coffee, and walk it home, thanking your lucky stars that you didn’t head out on the longer loop that you had originally planned.

And you live to fight another day.

I’ve had a lot of good runs lately but this wasn’t one of them. Trying to wrap my brain around going double the distance next weekend at altitude with a donkey. And then there’s the little problem of needing to get my ass (without a donkey) 17 miles and 5000 vertical feet up and over Imogene Pass in September.

Patience …

Case in point.
A few weeks ago I bought myself a paddleboard and now my husband, furry dog, toddler, and mom have all been out on it. I’m converting people and canines one by one …

Oh, hey.

What’s up, Tumblr? It’s been a long time, eh? A really long damn time. I’ve missed you.

Here’s what’s been going on:

  • I quit my job. I started spending more time with my kid and doing some writing on the side. It’s been awesome.
  • Lots of running. So much damn running.
  • Lots of paddleboarding. So much damn paddleboarding. I’m addicted.
  • A little time on the mountain bike.
  • A lot of time in the mountains.
  • Chickens.
  • Donkeys.
  • Toddlers.
  • Life.

It’s been rad, mostly, and I’ve got a lot to tell you. It’s good to be back.
